Newfoundland and Labrador curler Brad Gushue — a two-time Olympic medallist who has won more national men’s curlling championships than anyone else in the sport — has announced he will retire from competitive curling at the end of his next season.

Gushue made the announcement in a video on social media Wednesday, citing a desire to spend more time with his family, and completion of the goals he set out to achieve as an athlete.

“I feel like I’m among the lucky few who can say they’ve achieved them. That’s given me the confidence to make this decision now. To leave on a high note with no regrets, no challenge left unanswered, and no expectation unmet,” Gushue said.

He added he is eager to stay connected to curling, and is excited to explore new opportunities off the ice, while thanking fans for a full career of support.

Gushue, 45, is a six-time Brier champion, and has competed at 21 Briers either as Team Newfoundland and Labrador, Team Canada or a wild card team. He’s also a five-time medallist at the World Men’s Curling Championship, and has 15 Grand Slam victories to his name.

Gushue made history by winning Olympic Gold in 2006 in Turin, and Bronze in 2022 in Beijing.

Gushue currently skips alongside lead Geoff Walker, second Brendan Bottcher, and third Mark Nichols, who also won Olympic Gold with Gushue. The team will speak to reporters on Thursday at 2 p.m. NT.

Gushue’s final Brier will take place in St. John’s, beginning Feb. 27.
