Atlético Ottawa has clinched a spot in the Canadian Premier League final after notching a 2-1 come-from-behind win Sunday over Forge FC.
The away victory at Hamilton Stadium in the CPL’s championship semifinal means Atlético will play a winner-take-all match at TD Place on Nov. 9.
Forge FC, who finished first in the CPL table — a mere two points ahead of Ottawa — can still qualify for the final if they win the contender semifinal next weekend.
Sunday’s game saw Forge FC open the scoring in the 23rd minute with a goal off the foot of Mathieu Choinière.
But Ottawa tied things up 10 minutes later when Gabriel Antinoro found the back of the Forge net.
Then early in the second half, Atlético striker Sam Salter — who set the CPL single-season record for most goals scored — knocked home a header that would prove to be the game-winning goal.
The two clubs squared off four times in the regular season, with three matches ending in draws and Forge FC winning the fourth.
